General Info:

Join us on the beautiful and rugged Oregon coast for a 2 day photography workshop!

Assisting on this workshop will be guest instructor Steven Michael. Steven is an area expert and coastal photographer extraordinaire with an impressive body of work. As a Coos Bay native, Steven has more experience photographing Shore Acres during high surf than possibly any other photographer!

Learn how to capture seascape images from start to finish during this two day Oregon coast photography workshop. Shore Acres is known for dramatic waves during high surf events. This workshop is scheduled to coincide with king tides but we hope to luck out with a wintertime high surf event too. Unfortunately there’s no way to predict high surf events more than a week or so out. If high surf conditions do not materialize then we will photograph other things within the state park and surrounding area.

Most vantage and access points for this workshop would be considered “easy” with little to no hiking involved. Wind, rain, and sea spray are factors to consider for any wintertime coastal photography.

This workshop is limited to only 6 participants to ensure a good instructor to student ratio.

What’s included:

Guided treks to beautiful vantage points within the historic Shore Acres State Park and surrounding areas. In-the-field individual instruction/guidance on composition, camera settings, etc. Demonstration on how to clean your camera gear after saltwater exposure. After workshop post processing videos based on the images captured during the workshop delivered via email and accessible on the clients only “tutorial videos” page on my website.

What’s not included:

Transportation, lodging, meals, equipment, and anything not listed under the “What’s included” section above.

Who this workshop is for:

Photographers interested in learning how to capture high quality seascape images of dramatic waves and weather conditions. Photographers of all experience levels welcome! I do ask that you have basic knowledge and understanding of your cameras operation outside of automatic mode but this is not a hardline requirement, I can teach you as we go if needed. This is not a smartphone photography course. Please bring an interchangeable lens camera and a tripod. everything from wide angle to telephoto lenses are most for this workshop. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your photography equipment or experience level please don’t hesitate to contact me, I’m happy to help!

Physical requirements and safety:

Hiking coastal trails which are often along or near cliff edges is inherently dangerous. I do everything possible to limit risks but some simply can’t be avoided. If you are able to hike up to 1/2 mile per day on trails with your camera bag, water bottle, etc. This workshop will be within your physical abilities. You are responsible for knowing your own limits and making me aware of any health and physical concerns you may have prior to the workshop.

Once you purchase your spot on this workshop I will contact you with lodging recommendations as well as basic footwear, outwear, and equipment suggestions to ensure you will be prepared and properly equipped. A general itinerary will be provided as well but we need to remain somewhat flexible in order to best work with the conditions at hand at the time of the workshop.

Cancellation policy:

Should the attendee need to cancel/withdraw from the workshop a refund of your tuition will be issued if:

Cancellation is made more than 2 weeks before the start date of the workshop or if your spot can be filled by another attendee from the waitlist or by referral.

Equipment damage and safety:

Insurance for your camera equipment is highly encouraged. While I make every effort possible to limit the chances of equipment damage or loss, it can still happen! Oregon seascape photography is inherently hazardous.

By attending this workshop, you agree to hold Tim Hallam of Tim Hallam Photography and Steven Michael Smith of Steven Michael Photography harmless for all personal injury or loss that may occur during or in association with this workshop. This is a self-led travel trip. You are ultimately responsible for your own equipment and safety at all times.

This workshop is limited to 6 spots to ensure a good instructor to student ratio.

Licensed, bonded, insured:

As a licensed Oregon Outfitter Guide (#3205) I am CPR and First Aid certified and carry a first aid kit. The safety of the attendees is my first priority.
